Love Wins.

in re-reading character information about those in The Hunger Games,
I’m really pissed that they didn’t make the mockingjay pin more important in the first film. I mean, the fact that it belonged to Maysilee is a big freaking deal. To Katniss, because she’s friends with Madge AND because Maysilee was one of her mother’s friends, to Haymitch because he was in the freaking arena with Maysilee, and because it becomes the symbol of rebellion. Sigh, writers. Sigh.
plot twist: President Snow is Johanna Mason’s father

so today
I had just sat down next to my mom on the couch to read and all the sudden we hear this loud BANG and jump in fright and have no idea what’s going on and I look over and see

wellp my dad finished Mockingjay
woah woah woah is it official?
that Jena Malone is Johanna?
I don’t really have an opinion yet but I thought nothing was official? But imdb and multiple sites don’t even have it (rumored) anymore?
WHAT EVEN
Dad already finished the Hunger Games
and is now calling me Katniss all the time
and at dinner, I asked my sister if she ate another piece of cake
And she was like “nope, I never had anymore”
and he was like
maybe foxface took it
omg I cannot express to you that I have never been more proud to call him my dad
have officially gotten my entire immediate family to read the Hunger Games
first I got my sister
then my mom
then my second oldest brother
then my sister in law and my other brother
then the brother closest to my age
now my dad
he texted me yesterday and said “Where are the Hunger Games books?!?!/???” and I got home today and he was like “I’m almost done” and I see a book open on the kitchen table and I was all A;LSDKJF;ASKLDJF OMG WHERE ARE YOU THAT’S SO AWESOME HURRY UP
in addition to those, I’ve gotten my grandmother, my sister’s bestfriend and her younger sister, my bestfriend, a lady at Walgreens, the lady who cuts my hair, one of my other good friends, and another one of my good friends to read them.
that’s all off the top of my head. ~feeling accomplished
really? Katniss was a slut because she “had to choose” between two guys?
Do you people even see half the female population anymore? Go find me a girl who has not had feelings for two guys in her life, and I’ll find you a piano playing dinosaur.
me and my brother - review of thg (4th times a charm)
Wael, I just saw The Hunger Games for the fourth time in theaters. Not only is this the only time I can say I’ve seen a movie four times in theaters (Inception was 3, I believe), but I’ve enjoyed it in a different way each time.
I went with my brother today, who is a pretty strict movie critic. He took a film class in high school and now likes to analyze every little thing in a movie, which I enjoy discussing with him.. but I tend to be more lenient.
Here is most of his review, for those who want a stricter review not based on someone who just adored the characters and story in the books:
He loved the first hour of the movie, but he said it felt like “two different directors.” The first hour was amazing - he loved the camera-work, whereas a lot of people are complaining about it. He loved the reaping scene.
But, he disliked the actual Games. Which, I can see why - and honestly, I agree with most of it. I just look past it because, well, Everlark. But, his thoughts were: the arena seemed to small —- everyone found everything and everyone else way too easily. Katniss never got dehydrated or seemed to go very far, except for the one scene where they say “she’s nearing the edge.” I agree with that sentiment, and while I declared that it’s difficult to show that time lapse, I understand where he’s coming from. He also felt like her bow skills were lacking; he said Katniss in the book was practically perfect. My main agreement with this is the scene with Clove - she’s shooting at her practically point blank.. Katniss wouldn’t have missed that.. They should have just had her lose her bow or something. He also wished they had more gore.. He wanted it to be rated R, of course, because he feels like it’s one of the most real and surprising stories there is. I can see where he’s coming from, and as a guy he “read the books for the gore.” But as a girl, I appreciated the watering down. The movie is now able to reach out to more people, and honestly I could not have seen the close up of curly haired bb dying. He also thought they should have used voice-over, which I agree with. I love voice-over movies, and like he said, “they’re the best way to tell first-person stories.” Katniss was never bruised up enough - I’ve said that a million times; he was upset Peeta didn’t lose his leg (and questioned whether that was important or not - honestly, I don’t remember.. I don’t feel like it’s a huge deal in the next two books, but idk?). He thought they should have used music more; he said it wasn’t huge at the key parts (although I mostly disagree - I loved Rue’s Death music and the Train, as I’ve stated about a hundred times on here). He said he hates teenage actors and didn’t like the Careers, but it was whatever.
So, it does sound like he hated the movie, but he gave it a 7/10 - which is decent.
He liked that they didn’t try to make the mutts look like the dead tributes. And my favorite comment of him from the night was that Josh Hutcherson was the best actor out of all of them.. You guys don’t realize how big of a deal this is, but when the first trailer came out and I was trying to convince him to read the books, he was like “I just don’t like the guy.. I don’t think he’s a good enough actor.” So, when I asked him in the car (because let’s be real Josh nailed Peeta), he said “oh yeah he was great.”
CUE SELF HIGH FIVE.
So anyway, this is a more critical analysis. Not all my thoughts, just thought I’d share for those of you on Tumblr who don’t just want to hear positive things about the movie.
Oh, and just if you’re wondering - I give it an 8/10, and I’m a huge fan of the books and movies. It’s kinda crazy cause I love love love the movie, but can’t give it a super high rating for some reason.. It just doesn’t feel like that type of movie for me.
